Her voice was a curse…
When Dylan “Oz” Oswin’s son is kidnapped, the high-powered producer will do anything to get him back. Desperately following an anonymous tip, he seeks help from a former child singing sensation called Syrene, only to find she’s vowed never to sing again. Immune to her voice but not her charm, Oz is convinced she holds the key to his son’s disappearance—and he’ll stop at nothing to make her break her vow.
Only he can make her sing…
She knows the devastation her talent can bring. There’s more than a child’s life at stake, but Syrene cannot unleash her dangerous siren’s voice upon the world, even for a man who is impossible to deny…

Patricia Rice Interview, Author of The Lure of Song and Magic
Romantic Crush Junkies; January 12, 2012
Why do you write?
PR: Because my characters need homes, my frustrations need release, because I can’t kick the world and make it change, so I can try to make people forget their troubles for a while.
Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.
PR: Music can affect plants and some people have what is called musical intelligence—they’re far more sensitive to rhythm, tone, and pitch than most of us.
PR: Anything can be done with perseverance.
Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?
PR: That would require calling on my lamentable memory for names. How about Atticus in To Kill a Mocking Bird and Mame from Auntie Mame. Fair-minded and intrepid!
Which fictional character would you hang out with?
PR: Call me old-fashioned but Rhett Butler still rings my chimes, now that he’s over his stupid obsession with that Scarlett chick.
What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?
PR: I’m bad at graphics. I like sparklies and pretty people. So the cover on The Lure of Song and Magic covers all my favorite bases!
What would readers be surprised to learn about you?
PR: That I’m a klutz? I figure they already know I burn technology but I can break a wrist getting off a horse. Which explains today’s brevity (I recently did so while on vacation)!
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?
PR: I’m pretty used to the commonness of my name by now. Very little surprises me. I die daily. I’ve written everything from scholarly treatises to articles on religion in our local paper. I really need a new name.
If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?
PR: Forward. I like bathrooms. And chocolate.
Patricia, please share with us more about your recent Sourcebook release, The Lure of Song and Magic.
PR: Here’s the official tag line: Workaholic TV producer Dylan Ives Oswin believes former singing sensation Philippa Syrene Malcolm James holds the clue to finding his kidnapped son. A lost child herself, Pippa cares about the missing boy even though Oz’s “don’t take no for an answer” personality threatens her fragile survival. But Pippa refuses to unleash her dangerous siren's voice, even for a man who is impossible to deny...
Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?
PR: Story, because I reek at voice.
Patricia, please share with desperate readers where they can connect with you in cyber world. =)
PR: You can google and find me pretty easy. or to go direct, here’s a few of my many locations:
Blog: http://patriciarice.blogspot.com/
Website: http://patriciarice.com/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/Patricia_Rice
I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?
PR: I read so many genres! To avoid listing all my romance friends, I’ll go elsewhere: Terry Pratchett, Jennifer Crusie, Patricia Briggs, just to get you started.
What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?
PR: If you limit me to physical shelves...The original Magic series is being reissued. Merely Magic is already out there. Must Be Magic will be out this spring, and Trouble with Magic in the fall. I have an urban fantasy under a pseudonym (Told you I wanted a new name!) coming out from Pocket in August. And one brief mention of e-book releases, please—check http://www.bookviewcafe.com/index.php/Patricia-Rice/ for two new reissues of my contemporary romances, and with any luck, a brand new historical romance that was bought but never published coming this summer.
Patricia thanks so much for stopping by and chatting with Romantic Crush Junkies readers and myself; it has really been a blast getting to know more about you and your books.
PR: Thank you so much for having me!

The Lure of Song and Magic sounds divine--and the cover is gorgeous. I love sparkles and swirlies on covers as well. :)

The cover god drew me in, and the little teaser sold me.
Great meeting you, Patricia.

The Lure of Song and Magic sounds like such a fantastic book. I wasn't expecting a contemporary story featuring a siren, so the more I hear about it the more I'm really looking forward to reading it.

Magic & music! Irresistible combination *fingers crossed* I'd LOVE a copy!
I wanted to buy one of your books from Sourcebooks recently but there were geo restrictions. I so hate when that happens. It's discrimination :(
thumbelinda03@yahoo.com
sorry about the restrictions, Linda. Sourcebooks has the rights to all the Magic books because I wanted them in print, but a lot of my backlist can be bought unrestricted digitally. Try http://www.bookviewcafe.com/index.php/Patricia-Rice/eBooks/
Hi, LilMsMolly, glad you enjoyed Wyckerly!
